learning to love making

this is not a guide to love-making, this is an article about craftsmanship.
Preparing the van is a pain, a pain I’m making for myself. It doesn’t have to be this way but its how I made it. Perhaps its my desire to learn that drives me to do the most complicated and convoluted solutions to things.
For example:
My former fed-ex van came with a security/backup camera. I wanted to mount it where the rearview mirror was, I learned how to 3D print and modify this socket joint to have it fit with the space. This worked but given the length of the socket the angle ended up facing upwards when it should be facing downwards towards the driver.
I’ve spent 3 version of prints to finally get it to work. In the end, I used zip-ties to solve the problem. Was is a simple 3 min solution? Yes. Did i have fun exploring alternatives only to rendezvous at Simplicity rd? Also yes.
Much of the van has been a struggle because I’m learning!
So far I’ve learned:
Woodworking
- types of wood and how each have an applications
- humidity, how wood expands and how to combat it.
- many of the basics and tools
- learning to measure and cut well
Electronics
- everything, no really
- from Ohm’s Law to resistance and so much more
- wiring sizes, power draws calculations and how every part relates to each other.
- too much to list 3D modeling
- SketchUP basics and learning to model in non-paramarerized models like free-CAD or Sketcup
- Printing in 3D and slicing Vehicles and general mechanics
- Nothing serious but learning about alternator and how it relates to the engine
- Naturally Aspirated vs Turboboosted
- Diesel and BTUs
- Gas and propane vs electric and how the related to heat conversions in combution applications Insulation
- thermal bridging
- air is the best insulator
- forms of insulation and each type
- s o m u c h c o n t r a v e r s y with insulation
this is a work in progress as I learn more…
