The craftmanship

| 237 words

while this post learning to love making is about the specifics about what i’ve learned. This is the general idea around building.

Building the van is a means to learn more about crafting. Making things by hand.

Much of our modern life is filled with consumption. Watching youtube, spending time on social media, going shopping etc. Building by hand for oneself is a bit therapeutic. it fights against the hyper consumerist. I need something for the van I can build it. Learning that is a superpower since most off the shelf solutions won’t solve my specific problems. Not only that but having to spend time thinking, tinkering and playing with wood is so calming. Maybe its the environment of the hackerspaces, maybe its a return to my upbringing, regardless its a time where i’m not consuming, im not on my phone. I’m propelling my life foward one frame at a time.

Much of who we are is defined by what we do. When consumption is all we do, who are we?

Making gifts is a tradition as old as time, genuine time and effort into a personal gift has more meaning than all of the purchases on TEMU. In my quest to return to a synthetic-primitivist world for myself learning these skills are essential.

These skills will soon be used for my homestead and furniture. For unadulterated engineering.
